Tuesday After School Group

A new venture in the life of the church took place on 7 consecutive Tuesdays from May 3, 2022 through June 14, 2022.

The Tuesday After School Group (TASH) was geared towards those students ages 5 and up. As the name suggests, it ran in the after school period until 5 PM.

It was open to all students regardless of their church affiliation. While it was suggested by St Paul, we invited the United Church, in particular, Marie Smith, to act as co coordinator.

Each session began with a hearty treat for these hungry youngsters who had just spent the day in class. Fresh fruit, cookies and/or cup cakes and treats like fruit pops were available. Then a well designed craft project took place. This was followed by games and even a park visit. The activities ended with a more quiet period of stories and songs.

It was well attended with 28 registered and a top attendance number of 24.

On the final Tuesday, June 14th, Certificates of Participation, were presented along with bible related books to all 28 registrants . Family and friends were invited for the closing ceremony and ice cream was enjoyed by all.

St Paul thanks all those involved including the volunteers and especially Marie Smith and her Eatonia-Manrtario United Church group.

Bernita “Bernie” Elaine Bredy
1936-2022

The family of Bernie Bredy are saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of the late Del Bredy, and loving mother of Debbie, Dale, Greg and Jeff.
Bernita was born on April 15th 1936 to the great joy of Burt and Annie Johnson. Her schooling was done at Cayuga.

Bernita worked at a hardware store, Belmount Hotel, Ninette Sanitorium and at the Esso Cafe. It was at the Esso Cafe in Virden where she met the love of her life, Delmer Bredy. They married in 1957. After a couple of years into the marriage, a decision was made to move to Delmer's hometown, Laporte Sask. They lived with his parents, Herman and Caroline for a while before settling in to their own place.
Bernita taught Sunday School for Eatonia & Laporte. She also became a member of the Ladys' Aid and the Horticultural Society. Bernita loved flowers and took great pride in any she grew.

One of her loves was dancing and she and Delmer attended many dances. Once a week she would play Kaiser with three other ladies. They would alternate where each game would be played, taking turns at one another's homes.

Bernita resided in her own home until July 2020 and then became a resident of the EOL. Unfortunately her health continued to decline. In October 2021 she was taken to the Leader hospital and then transferred to the Leader home. On January 19, 2022 after finishing her lunch, she closed her eyes and died quietly.

Bernie's life was celebrated on April 30th, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran, officiated by Pastor Scott Kopperud. A short interment was held right after the service for the family. Everyone was welcome to further celebrate Bernie's life with the family at the Eatonia Community Centre immediately following that service. Donations in Bernie's name may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the donor's choice.

Welcome Back

We plan to begin regular church services on September 12 at 9 AM. Pastor Scott Kopperud will be in the pulpit and on subsequent 2nd and 4th Sundays each month. It would be wonderful if we could have a good turnout to that first service as welcome him and show our pleasure at seeing one another again.

St Paul will start services at EOL on July 14th and thereafter the first Wednesday of each month: August 4, September 1st, October 6th and so on. As previously mentioned, anyone wanting to help with the treats after these services sat the home can contact Ann Davey.

We had a Baptism on August 8th and two large weddings are upcoming on November 20th and December 4th. It is a great start to our new beginning.
