Hope
1st Sunday of Advent • Isaiah 60: 2-3
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Let us pray: Lord God, we light this candle to thank you for your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ who is the light of the world. We who have sat in darkness have seen a great light, the light of Jesus Christ, our salvation. We give you thanks and praise in Jesus’ name, because he lives and reigns with you in your glory and in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Second Sunday in Advent • December 6th
Love
2nd Sunday of Advent • Mark 1:4
John the Baptist appeared baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sin.
Let us pray: Lord God, we light this candle to thank you for your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, who is the way. We who are like sheep have gone astray have found the way to you through Jesus Christ. We give you thanks and praise in Jesus' name, because he lives and reigns with you in glory, and in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Joy
3rd Sunday of Advent • Isaiah 35: 10
And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Let us pray: Lord God, we light this candle to thank you for your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Who brings us great joy. We who have walked in the shadow of the valley of death have found life in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We give you thanks and praise in Jesus' name, because he lives and reigns with you in glory and in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Fourth Sunday in Advent • December 20th
Peace
4th Sunday of Advent • Isaiah 9: 6-7
For to us a child is born; a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Let us pray: Lord God, we light this candle to thank you for your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, who is the Prince of Peace. We who live in discord and strife have found peace in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. We give you thanks and praise in Jesus' name, because he lives and reigns with you in your glory, and in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Final Advent Candle • December 24th
Christmas Eve
Luke 1: 68-79
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us -- To show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.
